Life Transitions
Supportive counseling for navigating major life changes, from career shifts and relocation to parenthood, divorce, and everything in between.
Understanding Life Transitions
Life transitions, even positive ones, can stir up a complex mix of emotions. Whether you're navigating a career change, relocation, new parenthood, divorce, retirement, or an unexpected shift in your circumstances, these moments of change can leave you feeling lost, anxious, or unsure of your identity.
Our culture often underestimates the emotional toll of even desired transitions. We celebrate milestones without acknowledging the loss, uncertainty, and identity disruption that accompany them. You may feel guilty for struggling with a change you chose, or pressure to be excited when you're actually grieving. These experiences are completely normal.
Transitions often involve an in-between space, a space between who you were and who you're becoming, that can feel deeply uncomfortable. But this in-between space is also fertile ground for growth when navigated with support. Our therapists help you process the complex emotions of change using person-centered therapy, narrative approaches, ACT, and values-based frameworks. Values clarification helps you identify what truly matters (distinct from what others expect) so you have an internal compass guiding your decisions even when external circumstances are in flux.
Your therapist will help you explore the losses embedded in the change, identify opportunities for growth, and build practical skills for managing stress, uncertainty, and decision fatigue. Many clients tell us that life transitions work became a turning point, not just in their circumstances, but in their relationship with themselves.
